Our Aboriginal & Islander Education Officer (AIEO) is an invaluable asset to our Cultural Responsiveness Team and school community, bringing profound cultural knowledge, dedication, and a compassionate approach that enriches our students' educational experiences and fosters a deeper understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. Her commitment to supporting and empowering our students is instrumental in creating an inclusive and nurturing learning environment. She is an active, visible and highly valued member of the school’s leadership team.
Our AIEO plays a crucial role in facilitating communication and strengthening relationships between teachers, students, parents, and the local Aboriginal community. Her expertise and knowledge sharing extends beyond the confines of our school. In addressing our students' wellbeing needs, our AIEO collaborates closely with Aboriginal families and external services such as Derbarl Yerrigan, Koorliny Moort (PCH), Healthy Minds, Aus Harvest, Koya, Clontarf and Deadly Sista Girls. She also provides cultural guidance to our school-based Student Services Team to ensure the most responsive and effective wrap-around supports are in place for our Aboriginal students. She has an active role on the AIEO network, providing guidance and empowering AIEO’s from our network to advocate for role clarity, autonomy and leadership opportunities.
